A Winter Vacation

After what has seemed as VERY long few weeks, a vacation is just what the Stanford family needed. I have been traveling quite a bit for work, Randy has been playing Mr. Mom (and doing a great job at it!) and the kids have been battling colds, flu, ear aches etc...so sometime away was nice.

I know I feel a bit more refreshed. No pressure from work for a week, got to sleep in (yes, I call sleeping till 8 sleeping in) and the kids were actually very well behaved in public.

Our vacation didn't take us anywhere too spectacular and we saw it more as a "test run" for vacations to come. We head on our journey by car to Lake Geneva WI. The 5 hour car ride didn't phase the kids, they were good both coming and going, well with the aid of food snacks during the antsy times. Oh what did our parents do without having DVD players in the back seat...GOD SENT DEVICES!

Unfortunately, the weather was a bit too cold the days we were there (around 10 degrees) so the kids weren't outside sledding or attempting to skiing, I guess next time. The ski "hill" was too "easy" for Randy so after about an hour of skiing he was good. Me, I stayed off the hill this trip as well, too cold for me.

We were excited that the Deckers boys were able to spend Monday with us. It was good to see them and I think they had a good time with us too! Randy and I have discovered that swimming lessons are in our children's near future. They have a strong confidence around water which makes me nervous especially with the boys.

The boys got a quick sled in right away
Monday brings yet another busy week at work...back to school for the kids...and an upcoming birthday party for the boys (can you believe they are 2!!).

It isn't vacation without ice cream!

SNOW! SNOW! SNOW!

We didn't get any record snowfall down here a couple weeks ago (thank god, since Randy was out of town!) but the few inches we did get satisified the kids' need to see the white stuff.  They were so excited to wake up to it...actually they were more excited about the snow than they were on Christmas morning...figures right!

I am always amazed on how Leighton puts things together in her mind...while driving to "school" the morning after the snow this observation was made by her..."Momma, because it has snowed...now Frosty can come and that means it is Christmas time because Santa has to come and get Frosty so he doesn't melt away"  (Oh and yes, one can conclude we've seen Frosty the Snowman more than once!)

The cold weather held off for us to get out and enjoy a little sledding at the high school in Fairfield. Leighton and Grant LOVED sledding.  Ryan went down a couple time but preferred exploring the area and the snow.  We all had a fun time!

Leighton's Christmas Concert

Today I was able to watch Leighton entertain the crowd in her first ever Christmas concert.  She did and awesome job...until the end...where she decided to do her own thing!  There's one in every crowd, right?

I tried to be a "techie" and get the video to be in the post but it is taking too long to upload...click on this link to view...      http://youtu.be/M61IBj3Hunw

(ok this time the sounds is linked right!)
