We didn't get any record snowfall down here a couple weeks ago (thank god, since Randy was out of town!) but the few inches we did get satisified the kids' need to see the white stuff. They were so excited to wake up to it...actually they were more excited about the snow than they were on Christmas morning...figures right!
I am always amazed on how Leighton puts things together in her mind...while driving to "school" the morning after the snow this observation was made by her..."Momma, because it has snowed...now Frosty can come and that means it is Christmas time because Santa has to come and get Frosty so he doesn't melt away" (Oh and yes, one can conclude we've seen Frosty the Snowman more than once!)
The cold weather held off for us to get out and enjoy a little sledding at the high school in Fairfield. Leighton and Grant LOVED sledding. Ryan went down a couple time but preferred exploring the area and the snow. We all had a fun time!

Leighton's Christmas Concert
Today I was able to watch Leighton entertain the crowd in her first ever Christmas concert. She did and awesome job...until the end...where she decided to do her own thing! There's one in every crowd, right?
I tried to be a "techie" and get the video to be in the post but it is taking too long to upload...click on this link to view... http://youtu.be/M61IBj3Hunw
(ok this time the sounds is linked right!)

Lost in the Woods
With the awesome fall weather today, we traveled to Keosauqua, Iowa to a local state park Lacey Keosauqua State Park for a hiking adventure. Randy WON the 10k race they held there last weekend for the Villages of Van Buren fall festival and while running he spotted some nice trails he thought the kds would like. We esitmated we missed prime fall colors by about a week, but it was still pretty.
The kids loved being "lost in the woods". The boys has some problems nagivating thru the heavy leaves on the floor of the woods, but all their falls didn't get them down.

Fairfield Ia, Population 9464...make that 9469
2 weeks down...and we are all seem to be adjusting to life away from the big city.
Leighton, I think is finally convince we are just here visiting and that this is actually our home. She does reference "her home" time and again. Her main vices are that there is no Wendy's here (not that we went there a lot but we passed it everyday) and she doesn't get to watch her shows in the car (by the time we get started we are already there really no commute here in Fairfield.) Daycare has gone much better than I anticipated it going for her which I am happy about.
The boys I will have to say love it here. The see Daddy ton more and they get to help him work on things. Their bed time most nights has been extended to 7:30. Their transition with daycare has been hard...they are pretty dramatic at drop off in the morning but we are assured they calm down soon after we leave.
Me...it is coming. The house is coming along and is taking some getting used to living in an old home -- the smell, the little problems, the creaking of doors and floors etc. The house isn't completely done yet so we are still living around contractors but they should be done by mid-next week. I have conquered about 98% of the boxes and things are finding their way into their new home. I am getting to know my way around. Fairfield is a pretty odd town for its size. The have a brand new Hy Vee and Wal Mart. A nice variety of restaurants -- 2 coffee shops, Mexican, Indian, vegan, Chinese even Japanese/sushi!! People are overly friendly and Randy seems to know everyone. My home office is still a work in progress but it is nice working from home again even though I seem to be in Des Moines at least once a week.
I think Randy seems to like us around. We do cramp his workout routine at times but I think he is adjusting.
We've survived our first guests -- Jean and her boys -- we kept all the kids busy all weekend. They seemed to like the new house and area.
Sorry no photos this week, my camera has taken a little hiatus with the move...just a quick post...to let you know I will be back to blogging soon.

Ch-Ch-Changes
Lots of changes going on in the Stanford Household these days it could make a person's head spin.
The boys have been moved up to the "Toddler Room" at "school". Huge change for them...the move for them means they start off the morning in the 2 year old room with Leighton and her friends. Yesterday was their first morning all together. When picking them up I was told Leighton was ever such the "mother" figure the boys. She gave them the full tour of "her" room and consistently reminded her friends that these were "her" babies/bubbies. Not only do they start out the day with the big kids, now they get to go outside in the morning to play! Again, I was told they both just laughed and scream with joy they whole time they were outside, I can envision them thinking "we're free...we're free!" Last change for them...no more cribs at school...they sleep on little cots for nap!! It is hard to think of my babies growing up so fast! (On a side note, L has been spending more time in the 3 year old room in preparation for her move in the next month or so.)
The big news these days is that I have left my job at Allied Insurance. Big change. 8 years, great people and too many great experiences which made the decision to leave extremely hard and scary to make. To be honest, I am still questioning a little if I have had make the right move, but life is measured by the chances you take. I have taken a new opportunity with another insurance company as a Territory Sales Manager for Eastern Iowa. With this new role, it is going to afford us the opportunity to move the whole clan over to Eastern Iowa for the next few years while Randy finishes his stint in Fairfield. It appears as though Fairfield will be the Stanford's new home sometime here in the near future.
In the meantime, I am enjoying a full week off with no work...I think it is the first time in 8 years I haven't been checking emails or have gotten texts about work...it is kind of an odd feeling. I am getting the house cleaned top to bottom and am able to run about freely without time constraints or hauling kids. Life IS good. (shoot I am blogging while watching the Olympics!)
The final change which was most traumatic to the kids...we sold the van! My new job I will be getting a company car so we figured we would do a little downsizing of life in the process. We are also selling Randy's car (Lexus ES 350, if you know an interested buyer) In replacement of these 2 auto we will be getting a large SUV (something with a 3rd row) to haul the kids. Our van sold faster than we wanted/anticipated...only a few days on craigslist...went to an awesome family. To be honest, even though I was dreading driving the van, I was sad to see it go...the kids loved that car. When it was time for the new family to take the car, Leighton cried and cried and wouldn't get out of the van "This is my van" "No they can't take it" it made my heartbreak to see her so sad over this which doesn't make moving out of the only house she knows any easier. She is still a little mad at Mommy and Daddy for selling "her" van and will jab us with "I sure wish I had my van" or a "I just want to ride in my van".
That is all the change for now...last but not least photos of what we have been busy doing these days.

Capturing the Moment
Like most ideas I have involving me and 3 kids under 3, I always think this is either going to go well or be a total disaster. Most of the time, things go better than expected, which gives me the confidence to try the next thing on my list...well the next thing on that list was Target and to top that off Target Photo Studio!
Let just say there are some moments best not to be captured on photo...this could be one...however...it has provided me and numerous others with a day full of laughs!
Maybe we should send the whole shoot into the Ellen Show for Horrible Family Photos!
Hope you enjoy...click the below link!

Why can't they all be 3 day weekends???
As you can tell by the amount of photos, we had the camera out and were busy this weekend!
With it being "oppressive" as the weatherman put Saturday and Sunday, we busted out the pool (s) for some backyard fun. We started Saturday with just one small pool which proved ineffective for the Stanford's kid play...too many kids wrestling for room. The kids got an upgrade on Sunday and loved the extra room and there was no fighting which pleased Mommy and Daddy.
On Monday, Randy was asked to speak at the Adel Memorial Day service. He gave a nice speech and it was a nice service...complete with cookies for all. The kids were actually all as good as we could expect them to be.
After the service, we decide to go on a picnic to a park on the East Side of Des Moines. This was a park that Randy used to go to when he was little on visit to see his Grandma Rose. It has it all picnic tables, wading pool, carousel, and a rocket ship! The kids had a blast!

Lately...
To say we've been pretty busy lately is probably an accurate statement!
With each passing day, it seems as though the kids get busier and busier and time just continues to fly by faster and faster!
Our Saturdays, for the past 5 weeks and next 3 has been consumed with soccer league. Yep, they start them young down here, 2.5 year old soccer league. I will admit, it is painful hour and our "little soccer star" for the most part has little interest in the whole thing, but I suppose it is good for her to be involved, right?!?! Leighton spends most her time chasing boys (great for us right?) or laying on the field...she does have brief moments of "greatness" and will kick the ball.
Last weekend, we had our first garage sale. It was a lot of work, but a good success! We are rid of all our baby stuff...it is amazing how fast things go down here. Within the first 30 minutes of being open, we had already made a few hundred dollars off our baby gear! Don't know if we will have another, but it was fun to talk with all the expectant mothers who came thru our garage.
For Mother's Day, my only request was to sleep in. As most of us new mother's know, "sleep-in" has a different meaning to us now than it did before kids. Randy honored my request (of course) and I was able to catch the zzz's till 6:50am...crazy I know!! He also step it up and took the kids out for breakfast all by himself, huge thing for him to take on! It was wonderful for a little over an hour, I was able to shower with no interruptions, read the paper, pick up and just enjoy the quiet...it the little things right?!?! To top the morning off, Randy even brought me home a nice coffee drink! And yes, to his surprise, he handled all the kids! Honestly, when we get in public they are generally angels...figures!
Leighton did have one request for Mother's Day and that was to go to the zoo, so we went, along with what seemed as the rest of Des Moines. The kids LOVED it! Leighton was herself an animal, she was all over the place and wanted to see and do everything! The boys took it all in from their wagon and rode the entire 2 hours in it without even one fuss! It was a great outing for us and everyone took awesome naps when we got home!
BIG NEWS FOR THE STANFORD'S...LEIGTHON IS NOW IN PANTIES!!!! For about the past month, she has been "practicing" this going potty in the big potty thing. We have had much success with her peeing on it with few accidents...poo poo has been a totally different issue. Then Wednesday of this week, something went off in her little head and was very insistent on wearing panties and we've had no accidents since (number 1 or number 2)...well we had 1 but Mommy takes the blame for that accident. Is it possible on less kid to buy diapers/pull up for??

We are ONE!!!
One would of thought with my full 7 day "mommy-vacation" I would of been a blogging fool...sorry for all of you who visited last week and were disappointed. Last week...was....GREAT! I think everyone in this household need a little break from each other. Hence it took me till about Saturday to really start to miss the kids (sorry animals, Mommy does love you though) The week was full of cleaning, trip to Minnesota (for work, but a stop at IKEA was made!), Mommy and Daddy got to go out on dates, and we socialized with friends sans kids and kids settings...it was like a time wrap to the "good ole days".
Switching to the main topic of this post...not so long along...well geez like a month ago now ...we celebrate a BIG BIRTHDAY...the BOYS turned 1!! You are not alone if you thought the last year just flew by...it did for us too! I am still in a bit of disbelief my babies aren't baby babies anymore.
We had a fabulous party for our little "monsters"!
Our 1 year stats--
Ryan--Little Bubbie as Mommy calls him, Swiper is what Leighton refers to him as -- most days ends up being Mommy's favorite, if she had to have one, he is so laid back and just takes it all in, rarely fusses...just goes with the flow. He is always on the go. His laugh can make anyone giggle. I have thought about taping and it and trying to sell it, it is just that perfect. He likes to take things when you aren't looking...his favorite target is usually Leighton's cup or Grant's bottle. He is starting to try to repeat words what we say to him and like to sing "la la la" after someone sings it to him.
Weight -- 17lb 13 oz; Height 29.1 inches
Grant--aka Bubba--he comes by that nickname honestly as he can't shove food in his mouth fast enough and eats about everything (except eggs and peaches). He is the persistent one and won't let up his cry until he gets his way (and trust me in the battle of wills he will always be the victor). He is little less busy than his brother but seems to be more of an aggressor (ask Sissy about his teeth and wrestling ability). He loves shaking his head "no" and LOVES his bottle (refer to persistence above).
Weight-- 20lbs 3 oz; Height 29.3 inches
As much as each boy is totally different they seem so much the same...the love to play/fight with each other, they adore Leighton and love to follow her and play with her, and they both still like to cuddle with Mommy (yay for mommy).
It been a busy year to say the least but well worth it!

Ode to Winter
In a rare occurrence this Sunday night, all 3 kids were in bed by 7:15! This leaves Randy and I twiddling our thumbs tonight...don't get me wrong, it is nice...but...we you aren't used to this "quietness" it is kind of dumbfounding.
Given the AWESOME weather we have been having it is giving us a glimpse of what summer will be like...being able to be outside all day = all kids in bed early. I figured once last blog to clean out my camera and what I hope is an 'Ode to Winter'.

Vacation
Almost a month ago, we (Leighton, Randy and I) made the 16 hour drive out to Jackson WY for vacation. You can probably guess by the destination it was Randy's turn to pick a vacation spot, cause really WY in the winter....brrrr!
The drive actually wasn't too bad...all I know is that if you think Iowa is boring to drive across you haven't driven across Nebraska! Leighton was an awesome rider, beside a little car/altitude sickness and one speeding ticket (Randy's), the ride was pretty uneventful.
Our main purpose of this destination was to ski. Due to cold weather and lack of good snow, once we arrived we figured this vacation was going to be a bust, but then the skies got cloudy and dumped about 5 FEET of snow on the month! Making for one happy skier in our clan (Randy)!
We were able to get Leighton up on skis, short time as it was, she seemed to enjoy it. We saw wild Elk, horned sheep, lots of snow, played in the children's museum, did a little swimming, and managed to sleep in each day! (Thanks to the boys playing back in Buchanan Co @ grandma's/nana's...we did start to miss them...well at least by Thursday!)
All and all a good vacation even with lots of snow and very very cold temperatures. I am sure we will be back for a summer vacation once the kids are a bit older.
(yay for me after a good year for finally figuring out to insert a slideshow, now will I be able to it again?)

Our first DIY courtesy of Pinterest
I am sure many of you have joined or checked out the new craze called Pinterest, if not, let me warn you it is addictive! It is a hodge podge of people ideas consumed in one website to share...recipes, do-it-yourself projects, hair styles, fashion, kid crafts...you name it you can find it out there!
Given I am a loyal follower/user of the site, I came across a potential solution for the following issues...
Issue 1: Clutter, Clutter, Clutter (and yes I am mildly embrassed to post this photo) this is our laundry room/changing station on a typical day
Given I am a loyal follower/user of the site, I came across a potential solution for the following issues...
Issue 1: Clutter, Clutter, Clutter (and yes I am mildly embrassed to post this photo) this is our laundry room/changing station on a typical day
Issues 2,3,4,5 in no particular order
Leighton using her laundry skills and starting the dryer. She likes "helping" and our clothes are always extra dry or she love throw and few item in the washer and starting it.
Ryan notroius for pull handfuls of clothes out while loading
His partner in crime, Grant, gets a kick out of Mommy telling him "no no" and throwing the clothes back into the washer multiple times
Tag teaming the washer
Last issue and probably most concerning, is the boys trying to climb into the washer
Our solution I came across on Pinterest and here is our new laundry room!!
How much better is that!! I love it!! The washer/dryer at this height makes them much more user friendly and we will able to store laundry baskets and items under the washer instead of on top. The only down fall is our changing station is gone, but that's what the floor is for right!?!? (just kidding mom!)
Now here's the best part...can you believe Randy made this!?!?! Don't worry, I am still a little shocked myself! When I first showed him this project, I commented "I wished we lived closer to home so my Dad could build this" I guess that start the challenge as I did actually think he want to build something!
It took us one day and numerous trips to Menards, but for our first project, and Randy never having any shop, saw or building skills in his aersenal...we are pretty proud of the outcome!
Doesn't he look "handy"
Got to love our garage/woodworking shop
The finished product before paint
Not to shabby!
